  • Montreal: The discovery clears up
Since I arrived to Montreal during May I could live through something of the climatic changes that this country can have, let's be honest I did not enjoy the cold of-40 grades but when I arrived the weather was cold and it was raining enough, the commercial centers were still using the heating which was very warm for my taste, I started to sweat in a few minutes and...

I could not imagine my life in a different way, a life without soccer would not be amusing, I believe that it wouldn’t be worth of being. This sport is for us a mix of hobby, fanaticism, passion, love, hate, satisfaction and deception.         I do not know another sport that it gathers all these elements and that it is so important for...

One year has already passed since Susana Villarán began its administration as Lima’s mayor, she arrived to the town hall with many promises and although it was not of the election of many of us, we all had hopes that the progress would continue during her administration, besides she would be also the first woman mayor in Lima city.  In spite of what many say, I...
  • The Metropolitano
The Metropolitano perhaps is one of the most expensive and awaited projects of public transportation of all time, I believe that it is not for less since the expectation created around it and what it means for Lima and its inhabitants, both have contributed to create an atmosphere with mixed  feelings and opinions beyond all expectations.  To begin I...

Small but at the same time warm city, charming and nostalgic, with such a special air that from the first time that I visited it, has been in the list of my favourite cities. Don't expect to find anything spectacular, neither big buildings, neither extravagant things, this city doesn't have them, on the contrary it is very simple, but full with human...

Istanbul Turkey (12)

I clearly remember that before visiting Istanbul I was told many things about the culture and customs in Turkey, most of them were not very nice, cause what I was told gave me some fear, it was so bad that  the first time I visited this city I was some fearful.

But at the moment of the visit, when walking through the streets and being in touch with people of this city I could see that everything I have heard was false.

The first impression I had of Istanbul was that the city was very colourful, perhaps the most colourful in the world I have visited so far, I did not see anything hidden in the attitude of its inhabitants, on the contrary it was a cosmopolitan city, maybe more than many of Europe and North America in which I was. Its mixture of cultures, religions and trends make it one of those few places that you really must visit. In Istanbul you can find the most modern in the world such as the excellent tramway system running through the center of the town, at the same time you can live the most typical side of the culture at the time of purchasing the tramway cards, as you have to do it in a small shop in the vicinity of each station, I learned that if the attendant likes you then he will sell the cards, otherwise he will just say no.

We arrived during the time of Ramadan, a religious festival very important to the Muslim world; we were advised to be careful not to offend the Turks. To be honest we had no cultural problems, or feel a heavy atmosphere as we had been led to believe.

Taxis drive in the most frantic possible way, even more than in Peru; the tramway is also frantic and for moments seems to be doing a race to taxis. I swear that in every corner I thought we would kill somebody or crash, I do not know how we arrived safely at the port, apart from that taxi drivers always managed to get 6 people in the taxi.

I must emphasize the friendliness of the Turks, always smiling and ready to talk. I never stop to be amazed with them because they are always up to date with the last world news, knew enough about my country and football players, I must also emphasize their desire to learn other languages. One day I visited a restaurant in downtown with one of my colleagues and to our surprise, the attendants were studying Spanish, I have not seen that before anywhere else in the world.

I will always remember Istanbul as one of those places where I would return over and over.

Istanbul Turkey (1)
