Barranco is just 10 minutes far away from Chorrillos, it is widely known by its colonial architecture and its bohemian character as a great number of Peruvian artists, poets, writers and composers chose this district of Lima to live. It is here where the school SAN JULIAN was placed, I studied grammar school there.

In the main square handicraft is sold every night from 8 o'clock, the handwork of these artisans is excellent and original. From time to time some concerts and presentations of chorus take place at the main square; there is also a fair of books once a year.

We can also find many restaurants, cafeterias and ice-cream parlors, in the pubs of Barranco there are live concerts, and the musical genders are very varied.

The Museum of Electricity is placed near to the main square and is very visited by school students and tourists, an old local train is placed in front of the museum, this train still works but it only offers small and tourist trips to everyone who wishes to use a mean of transportation of the old Lima.

The path down to the beach of Barranco is a very nice place, there is no one like this in the whole city, this place is full of vegetation and old houses, some of them are now restaurants.

There is also a view point in the highest part, near the "Puente de los suspiros" (bridge of sighs).

The Barranco's beach is not really big, but with the Chorrillos' and Miraflores' beaches are part of the "Costa Verde", in other words a big group of beaches very visited during summer.

The "Puente de los suspiros" is a well known bridge in the whole city and maybe in the whole country, it is a very classic place that belongs to the old Lima, it hasn't had almost any change since its construction. At present this place is very visited by couples and tourists.

But this bridge is also the favourite place of poets and composers who come here looking for inspiration; Chabuca Granda, the most famous composer of the Peruvian history composed her song "La Flor de la Canela" inspired by this bridge.

If I have to come back to live in Lima, No doubt I would choose Barranco

Barranco
